MY ROUTE THROUGH THE BIG THOMPSON CANYON TO ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK WAS OFFICIALY SHUT DOWN FOR REPAIRS FROM PAST FLOODING TODAY. (10-17-2016) .  SO I TOOK A TRIP UP ON WEDNESDAY AND SATURDAY BEFORE THE CLOSURE TOOK AFFECT.  AFTER THE CLOSURE IN ORDER TO GET TO THE PARK I WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH LYONS, COLORADO WHICH WILL BE ABOUT A 35 MINUTE DETOUR EACH WAY. MY NORMAL ROUTE THROUGH THE BIG THOMPSON CANYON WILL BE CLOSED 6-7 MONTHS.

ONE HIGHLIGHT OF THE TRIP WAS RUNNING INTO A FLOCK OF TURKEYS.  I HAVE HEARD OF PEOPLE SEEING THEM OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS BUT I HAD NOT OBSERVED THEM UNTIL LAST WEEK.  ON WEDNESDAY THERE WAS QUITE A BIT OF ACTIVITY AS THE MORNING AIR HAD A CHILL TO IT .  EVEN BEFORE ENTERING THE PARK I OBSERVED 13 BULL ELK.  MY COUNT OF BULLS WAS 23 FOR THE DAY.  THERE WERE POCKETS OF COLOR LEFT IN CERTAIN AREAS SO I ALSO TOOK A FEW SCENIC SHOTS.  ALL IN ALL IT  WAS A PRODUCTIVE TRIP.  ABOVE IS AN EXAMPLE OF SOME OF THE IMAGES I TOOK.  THE RUT IS OFFICIALLY OVER BUT THIS IS A GREAT TIME OF THE YEAR TO OBTAIN PHOTO'S OF THE PARKS WILDLIFE.  THE CROWDS HAVE DISSAPATED AND THERE ARE TIMES WHEN YOU WILL BE ALONE AND EXPERIENCE THE PEACE AND QUIET OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS.
